"It's also something that you can't do once and it is done,” Hanehan said. Several times a year, Hanehan says, his team goes through different forms of safety and equipment training. "This is a unique fund that is geared toward smaller farmers who may not have the financial ability to participate in expensive education program or buy a piece of equipment that just may be outside of their budget," Ammerman said. Through the John May Safety Fund, farmers can apply for up to $5,000 to install safety improving measures. In an effort to improve farm safety across the state, the New York Center for Agriculture and Medicine is partnering with the Farm Bureau and Department of Ag and Markets to launch a new matching grant program.
